JPJ was out with Southland Mountain Bike Club on Wednesday night clearing out the old gravel pit at Sandy Point. It was so good to have such a fantastic group come along and get stuck in.
The weekend before JPJ and Jake Bradshaw went in and rebuilt one of the old drops which had faded away over time to new two level drop and looked at the old pit and thought wouldn’t it be cool if…..
So Jake (Who is certified to cut on council land went to work chopping up the tree and we came back on Wed and cleared it all out. Because there was a few of us we it only took an hour so we went for a night spin after it. We were all surprised at how many rider there were out at night!

The Gravel pit is great little area to practice short steep rolls and there room for tonnes more drop progression and looks like a place that has become a bit under utilised. Hopefully opening it back up will allow local riders to experiment with a few more lines.
Looking forward to seeing how this evolves!
Night riding at Sandy Point is Ideal winter training. Sheltered warm, free draining soils !
